I worked mostly midway games and helped with set-up and tear down of the concessions. It was around 1969/70 until 1973/74. I was a teenager and it was one of the greatest things I ever did. My daughter who is now grown always teases me and tells her friends that I was a 'carnie" when I was younger. Don't have any pics to send you but I have lots of stories.

I worked one season with Conklin at the CNE. I applied along with a friend and Conklin were terrific-even placing us on the same ride, together. We worked the giant slide which had to shut down during the rain... this gave us time to explore the other rides and get to know the other Conklin employees. It was great fun!

Hello all, gotta say I now live in England, but I miss the ratrace of the midway! My first experience out of the nest was with Dobco on the rising waters, and I loved it! Anyone who worked the circut had a load of energy, cause the work never stopped but what a great time! You may remember me from the tear down party in Regina, when I was lucky enough to win a pie and I slammed in Debbie Dobsons face! OH how I enjoyed that. Anyway I am now married and work in the radio industry in England, so if you want to email me and say hi, go for it.

I worked as local help when I was 17 years old and was too young to travel with the show. As soon as I turned 18 I phoned up the winter quarters office in West Palm Beach and was hired to travel! At the age of 18 I was not only Conklin's only and first female ride foreman, I was also the youngest ride foreman. Being young and "green", I was the butt end of many pranks and jokes. I remember one distinctly. My second year on the road, they changed the layout of the Calgary Stampede. Alfie Phillips who was President at the time, held an owners meeting to address the changes. The owner of "The Australian Worm" was Jimmy Caskey who was also the Major Ride Supervisor. He was tied up and was unable to attend the meeting so I was asked to sit in for him. After teardown in Calgary, I received a "memo" in my "mail box"....I didn't know I had a mail box....It was a message from Alfie saying that the hours for the next show (Edmonton) had changed from opening at 11AM to noon. I was under the impression that everyone got this "memo". NOT! After I was done setting up in Edmonton, the night before we opened, Jimmy told me what time lot call was for an 11 o'clock opening! I showed him my memo and he confirmed the time change with Frank and was left scrambling to get the word out! Durring my time with Conklin Shows I married Howard "Max" Brown who worked on the Dopple Looping. I also helped out quite a bit coordinating fundraisers for the Conklin International Academy.I have lots of pictures I can email to you. feel free to contact me.
