I started at the CNE in Toronto where I was a ticket seller. The following summer I worked in the WRS in Financial operations, primarily working in ticket office. This is where I met my wife Bonnie (Martin). Bonnie and I have been married for 20 years now and have 2 children (Brett 17, Megan 14). Conkin provided me experiences that I will never forget from travel to fun. One of my fondest memories is being "Tina the ticket weigher". We had a talent night in Regina after closing. That was a riot!

Started out as a kid with Conklin working with John Copping on the giant wheel in Calgary, back in the day when Conklin first started in Calgary at the Stampdede. Moved on to Zuccinni shows working with the great Teo, learned alot from Teo, from mechanical to setting up, tearing down and working hard for something...and for Chino ...starting spooking at night on the ghost manision and never looked back. Married and had the best time on the road, and had my daughter on the road (Rielle)The best thing that ever happened in my life...stayed on the road until 1996, then retired from the business..met alot of good friends out there, Joe Bob, Roger Thompson, Randy, John Copping, and so many others, found alot of lost friends on facebook and lost love too...now live in Ontario, with my girlfriend who I had a huge crush on since 1978 and my puppy...drive truck and see you all my old friends down the road again..trying to move back to Flordia SOMETIME SOON....IT'S COLD HERE IN CANADA....LONG LIVE THE CLOWN...HAPPY SPOOKING

My husband, Tiny Tim Kelly, was the Giant Wheel Foreman in the mid 80's. I wrote this poem 25 years ago in honor of the biggest ride on the midway!
Towers reaching to the sky hold fifty tons of steel
The highest on the midway and it's called the Giant Wheel
With flashing lights and grinning clowns the wheel's a wondrous sight
Alive and spinning through the day; a skeleton by night
The Giant Wheel's a huge expanse: 3663 square feet
With 24 gondolas holding six to every seat.
This beast once had a Foreman by the name of Tiny Tim
A rebel, and some green help were quite terrified of him
Our massive piece of metal brings back memories, alright
The time it took to climb the towers, bulbing every light
The colored tubs that rocked and swayed, I painted more than one
This ride was slow and lumbering but gave us so much fun!
A carnival takes many rides and carnys working long
They break their backs to bring you laughter; working for a song
It may seem like a fantasy; that none of it is real
But nothing moves you quite as much
As a spin on the Giant Wheel!

Tiny dragged me off with Conklin in 1983 at the tender age of 18. I had the time of my life and met many wonderful friends (family, really), some of whom I still hang out with today. My first job was "cover the spot". I lasted 3 days before realizing I was not cut out to work in the joints. I ended up on the carousel working for Bruce and took it over when he moved on. I filled in on the zamps and Autobahn at times. In later years I was the kiddieland supervisor and then the ticket supervisor working under Celina Copping and Pat Rice. Yonkers was a freaky place...We left the road around the time we got married in 1989 (our son Kane is 17 and our daughter Savannah is 16 - time flies). I have many, many fond memories. Helping with tear down on the Giant Wheel and climbing up the towers was expecially exciting. I also enjoyed the time I spent working on the Autobahn with Bama Janna for awhile (didn't she have the most beautiful green eyes?). Tim Wall always made me laugh and riding up from West Palm with him was such a good time (although he would say I ruined his hard hat). I will always remember the time Lurch caught a mark stealing stock from one of the joints and stepped on the guy's head until the cops arrived. That was precious. Our daughter had to do a "truth or lie" prject at school this week and one of her statements was "I am the offspring of carnys". Her class thought it was a lie. I guess not all kids can be lucky enough to have cool carny parents who know the value of good friendships and helping out your brothers and sisters of the road. We would love to hear from all our old friends! Look up Tiny - he's on the list here as well. Take care and ride safe!

Tiny worked for John Copping from 82-84 on the wheel before John moved on to bigger things! He asked me to say hello to all of his old carny family from '82 to '89 (he's not a computer guy). He has many fond memories of the old Conklin Shows; at least those he can remember after those Monday/payday all nighters. We still hang out with several of you (from floss bags to ride jocks and, yes, he'll even admit to the odd joinee - ha ha). We hope all you carnys are doing well and life would never have been the same had we not met so many great people. We will never forget ya'll and still speak of you often! The cockroach infested bunkhouses we do not miss a bit..... but winter quarters in Florida was a blast just the same (even though the roaches were bigger and meaner).A special hello to John and Celina, Hippy, Joe Bob, Sharon, Joan, Randy MacCarthy, Tim Wall (do you still love Stevie?), Tommy Coffing, Lurch, Dodey, John John, Danny Hill, Doug, Val, Mark and Chris, Buffy, Don Jail (FN100 now, eh buddy?), Daneta (RIP Murray, our dear friend), Herbie Perkins, John Gallant, John Anderson, 'Bama Janna, Jack Spratt, and others who I have certainly missed here (and missed, period).Take care all!Dana (AKA "Tiny's Ol' Lady)

How I started to work for conklin shows was through a friend, I originally worked with butler amusements at the Calgary Stampede, and went on for a few spots after that, but kept going back to join up with Conklin through Big M shows. The experience working with them was nothing but awesome, tiring, but still awesome. The people I met and became friends with out there was something i would never replace in my life! To this day i still talk to acouple of people i met there. The famous football/bingo/arcade parties where a blast.I had nothing but a blast while i workin with them even if it was through another show.
