The first year I worked there I was skipping school to do so. I was so proud of myself. I went down and got hired all by myself. I started to work right away. I was so smart(ha,ha)I never thought my parents would know. Everything turned out OK and I was hooked for a few years. Today June 19th,2003 I watched as my daughter walked out the door - where to? - to work in a pizza stand at the Ex. Like parents like child. My husband also worked there.

What a great experience working for Jimmy Conklin and Alf Phillips . Enjoyed every minute. As a young guy, working long hours and making some money for college it was all worth it.

Started off as a balloon boy and graduated to darts with stars the following year. The third year I was hired to run the crossbow trailer and in my final year I had the privilege of working at the birthday game. These are some of my fondest memories and I still tell my students I was a "carnie" when I was a teenager. I was actually at the CNE and as I was going through the midway memories of the birthday game came flooding back... Toss it in throw it in pitch it in the big red bin..Happy Birthday... easiest game on the midway

I was just a kid 14-15, i fell in love with the carny and one day a fellow named Dallas King called down to me from the top of the stairs of the motordrome "hay would you like a job ?Dallas king run the "KING SHOWS" and hooked up with the Conklin Shows"for major shows, like the CNE and others. The next day I was riding on the back of the motorcycle going around the wall, behind a guy called "Crazy Dave" and out front on the bally being tied to a cross, We spent the nights in the arcade that had closed after hrs.and turned into what can only be called a speak-easy, with the girls dancing the booze being actioned off and a 456 crap game going on, what can I say? is this telling stories out of school? well maybe, but it's what was going on and I loved every day and night of it. when the show went down to London Ont.we ended up doing an interview with a TV show Tabloid, when my mother saw the show it was the first clue she had about what I was really doing, not making 'candy floss' as she thought..good times, I'm sure if someone where to hunt through CBC's archives they would find that footage..I personally don't need to see it I remember it all like it was yesterday, 50 or is it 51 years ago. thanks for the memories...
